29 Twinks

Ages ago (pre-BC), Jack and I chatted about making an all-orc twink group.  At the time, we felt Orcs were one of the best choices for a single-race 5-man lvl 29 twink group (Trolls were probably a close second, but Orcs had slightly better racial benefits at the time and are smaller targets).  Although I still feel Orcs would be a great group, the introduction of the Blood Elf changed my mind, as far as "ideal" goes.

Why these races?  The racial skill is naturally an important aspect.  In PVP, an AoE silence comes in handy more often than short-duration buffs.  So if racials are important, why not Forsaken with their racial trinket, or the Tauren with stomp?  Classes.  The most important aspect to the perfect twink group is the make-up.   Sure, a 5-man rogue group or druid group could probably wreck some spaghetti, but I like to give the most chances to handle every WSG or AB situation.  So, maybe I'm assuming we were going with a 5-man group with a solid class mix.

This is where I feel Blood Elves, and originally Orcs and Trolls, shine.  Two of the most twinkable classes at lvl 29 have always been Hunters and Rogues.  So, if we look at what classes are available to each race, we can see what race will be able to support our group that has a rogue and a hunter.

Undead - Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Warlock
Tauren - Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Shaman
Troll - Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Hunter, Mage, Shaman
Blood Elf - Priest, Rogue, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Paladin
Orc - Rogue, Warrior, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman

As fun as the Undead are, they can't be Hunters.  Hunters can be game-changing in a BG.  They have so many tools along with their insane ranged DPS that they really are a must-have.  Taurens can't be Rogues, and every good group needs a twinked-to-the-moon Sneaky Stabby.  That leaves us with Trolls, Blood Elves and Orcs.

At this point, the team make-up is obvious for Orcs.  But that's okay.  Warriors were easily twinked at the time, too.  Warlocks were OKAY for dps and they can fear-juggle. Shammies provided utility and, more importantly at lvl 29, quick speed.

So what's up with Trolls?  Mages are probably more handy than Warlocks in WSG and AB for their various versions of CC along with their AoE and general huge dps.  A Priest is good for the group if it's going to always be WITH the group (not always easy), specifically to heal, since their dps isn't great at 29.  Generally, I'd go with dps over healing in these BGs.  I'd probably bring the Mage and leave the Priest ... because I'm assuming we're taking the Shammy.  On paper, Trolls have a better make-up than orcs, but like I mentioned earlier – they are big and they didn't have the best racials.  But that doesn't matter, because next we have...

The OP (for Over-Populated) Blood Elves ... with their AoE silence and as-small-as-Gnomes stealthing (if female Rogue).  Why do I keep bringing up size? You might not think so, but size DOES matter in lvl 29 BGs.  People still click on targets to attack.  If you're a Tauren, I feel sorry for you.  You're going to get attacked a LOT.  Anyway ... the classes.  Rogue, Hunter, Mage, Warlock and, yes, the game-breaker – the Paladin.  The Paladin, like the Warrior, was easily twinked to become a juggernaut at lvl 29.  He/she could hold a node in AB against multiple attackers while the rest of the team ran (or rezzed) to help.  Paladins could be so hard to kill in 29 BGs that people would pass them in order to fight something easier.  They don't dish out the damage that twink Warriors do, but they aren't wussy either.  And who cares?  You get to add a Warlock to your group to Fear and DoT the hell out of the battlefield.

But ... that's just what I think.  Naturally, my thoughts are more dated for pre-BC to BC, so racials were different.  If I had to compose the team now, I think my team would still be similar if not the same.

What do YOU think?
